Welcome to
chesley district community school
Home of the Cougars

As we enter a new month of sheltering at home we can be hopeful that we have fewer days ahead of us, than we have behind us.  Reports indicate that we are flattening the curve and thanks to our collective efforts we are managing this slightly quicker than anticipated.  At this time the Ministry of Education has extended school closures to May 31.

Continuation of Learning -

We are all starting to adjust to our virtual learning environments.  This has been a steep learning curve for students, parents and teachers.  It’s not perfect, but we are all doing our best in a difficult situation.  This looks different in every household.  Some of you are able to engage with the virtual classroom everyday and others are focusing on learning life skills around the farm and home.  Whatever works for your family at this time is right for your child.  Remember, none of us can learn if we are under stress.  Focusing on our mental health will ensure we all emerge from this pandemic resilient to move forward.  Don’t worry about your child missing out or falling behind.  All our students are going through this and I can assure you that teachers will do their best to support students once we return to school.

Student Items at School -

Most students still have personal items in the school building.  Many of them will likely have outgrown shoes, etc. by the time we return.  Unfortunately we are still prevented from entering the school.  Once the closure is lifted, you will be informed of the process to retrieve items.

From one parent to another—Take Care of Yourself to Take Care of Your Family -

The mental health repercussions of this pandemic may end up being more severe than the virus itself.  We need to be sure to focus on doing things that promote mental health (i.e. going for a walk).  When you travel with children on a plane, they advise you in the event of an emergency to put your own oxygen mask on first, so that you are able to help your child.  Similarly at this time, you need to ensure you are looking after your own mental health, so that you can best support your child.  This has been called an ‘unprecedented’ situation.  There is no playbook for a pandemic.  We are all going to mess up once in awhile and that’s okay.  We need to do our best everyday to support our kids through this.  If you or your child is struggling, or if you know someone who is, please connect with one of the resources on the following page.  They are there to help.

If you follow ChesleyCougars on Facebook or read the Messenger messages each day, you will know that our number one rule at CDCS is to Be Kind.  That includes being kind to yourself.

Take care and Be Kind everyone.  ~ Wendy Louwerse, Principal

This is a reminder that due to possible spread of COVID-19 the playground equipment, including the basketball court is CLOSED at CDCS.  Please be respectful of our school and your community.  Spread the word, Not the Virus!

Cougar Paws -

Cougar Paws are awarded during our Cougar Pause each day to students who exhibit the qualities of good Cougar character: caring, commitment, dependability, trust, honesty, teamwork, integrity, self-discipline, responsibility, respect.  While we can't be at school we are awarding Cougar Paws people in our communities who demonstrate these character traits.
Students can nominate groups (i.e. nurses) or individuals for Cougar Paws by drawing a picture and sending it to Mrs. Louwerse at  Pictures will be posted on the Chesley Cougars Facebook page each afternoon.

Pizza/Milk Orders
Once staff are able to enter the school, Pizza and Milk orders for second term will be refunded.  We appreciate your patience at this time.
